Standard Poodle price in India
₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000. The range is about bloodline, not haggling, and the price is the same in every city we deliver to. Poodles cost more than most breeds in India for a simple reason: good ones are hard to produce here. The foundation dogs behind our line were imported from Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia, and dogs of that quality are not otherwise available in North India.
Why are Poodles expensive?
Small litters, careful pairings, and imported parents that cost a great deal to bring in and maintain. A cheap Standard Poodle in India is almost always a badly bred one, and the difference shows in the hips, the coat and the temperament by the time the dog is three.
Is there such a thing as a giant Poodle?
No — and this matters, because thousands of people in India search for it every month. There are three official Poodle sizes: Standard, Miniature and Toy. The Standard is the largest. A full-grown male stands around 60 cm at the shoulder and weighs 20 to 32 kg. Anyone advertising a “giant Poodle” as something bigger is selling you a word, not a dog.
The same applies in reverse to “teacup Poodle” — not a real size, just marketing for undersized dogs that often carry real health problems.
Standard Poodle colours

One honest note: what Indian sellers call a “blue” Poodle is a diluted black that often greys with age, and “teddy bear Poodle” is a haircut, not a colour or a type.
Living with a Standard Poodle in India
- This is a working dog under the haircut. Poodles were bred to retrieve from water and they are among the most intelligent breeds alive. A bored Standard Poodle invents its own entertainment, usually at the cost of your furniture.
- Space. Best in a house or a large flat with two real walks a day. This is not a dog to leave alone from morning to night.
- Grooming. The coat does not shed but it does mat. Brushing several times a week and a professional clip every six to eight weeks, for the dog’s whole life. In Indian summer ask for a shorter clip, never a shave — the coat protects against heat and sun.
- Heat and monsoon. Walk early and late through summer. Dry the ears properly after monsoon walks; ear infections are the most common Poodle vet visit in humid Indian cities.
- Children. Gentle and patient, though a big bouncy puppy and a toddler need supervision for the first few months.

How big does a Standard Poodle actually get?
This is the question behind almost every “giant poodle” search, and the honest answer is that the Standard is already the giant one. There is no larger variety. What varies is how big an individual Standard grows, and good lines grow big.

At the shoulder, an adult Standard stands roughly 24–27 inches. Standing on his back legs, a male reaches an adult’s shoulder. That is the dog people are picturing when they type “giant poodle” — and it is this one.
During the fast growth months, do not let a Standard Poodle puppy get heavy and do not force long walks. Joints forming under excess weight is the most common avoidable problem in large breeds.
Space, exercise and the apartment question
A Standard Poodle in a flat works, but only on one condition, and we will not sell a puppy to someone who cannot meet it: this dog needs real exercise every single day. Not a walk around the block.
- Daily minimum: 60–90 minutes, split into two sessions, including some running.
- Mental work: this is one of the most intelligent dog breeds there is. A bored Standard Poodle invents projects, and you will not like them. Fifteen minutes of training a day does more for behaviour than an extra hour of walking.
- Indoors: they are surprisingly calm inside once exercised. A well-exercised Standard sleeps most of the day.
A 3BHK with a committed owner beats a large house with nobody home. What does not work is a small flat plus long working hours plus no help.
Grooming a big Poodle in Indian heat
A Standard Poodle carries a lot of coat, and in Indian summers that coat needs managing properly rather than removing entirely.
Do not shave to the skin. It is the instinct every Indian owner has in May, and it is wrong. The coat insulates against heat as well as cold, and shaved skin burns. Ask for a short, even clip — roughly half an inch — not a shave.
- Professional grooming: every six to eight weeks, ₹2,000–₹4,000 in Delhi NCR for a dog this size.
- Home brushing: three times a week minimum, with a comb, focusing on behind the ears, under the legs and the tail.
- Summer clip: shorter body, leave the top of the head and back covered.
- Monsoon: dry thoroughly after every wet walk. A damp Poodle coat holds water against the skin and that is where fungal problems start.

Bloat: the one thing every large-breed owner must know
Gastric dilatation-volvulus — bloat — is the emergency that kills deep-chested dogs, and the Standard Poodle is deep-chested. It can go from healthy to fatal in a couple of hours. Every owner of this breed should know it before they need to.
Signs: a swollen, hard belly; repeated attempts to vomit with nothing coming up; restlessness and pacing; drooling; obvious distress.
What you do: go to a vet immediately. Not in the morning. This is the one situation where an hour genuinely matters.
Reducing the risk: feed two or three smaller meals rather than one large one; avoid hard exercise for an hour either side of eating; slow down fast eaters with a slow-feeder bowl. Know which emergency vet near you is open at night, before you need them.
Health: what to ask before you buy any Standard Poodle
Our puppies leave vet-checked, vaccinated and dewormed at eight weeks with their records. Beyond that, here is what you should be asking anyone selling this breed:
- Can I meet the mother? In person, or on a live video call. No exceptions, from us or anyone.
- What testing has been done on the parents? Hips and eyes are the relevant ones for Standard Poodles.
- How big are the parents, actually? Ask for a photo of an adult standing next to a person. Size claims are the most commonly exaggerated thing in this breed.
- What are the grandparents? Anyone breeding with intent can answer this.
- What is the plan if something is wrong in week one? Settle it before money changes hands.
Who should not buy a Standard Poodle
- Anyone who cannot commit to daily exercise. This is the single reason these dogs end up rehomed in India.
- Anyone who wants a low-maintenance coat. A big Poodle is a serious grooming commitment for its whole life.
- Anyone buying for size alone. This is a thinking dog that needs a job, not an ornament.
- First-time owners with long working hours. Intelligence plus boredom plus size is a difficult combination.
