| Standard Poodle | ₹1,00,000 – ₹2,00,000 | ~60 cm, 20–32 kg |

The three Poodle sizes
Standard Poodle
The original and the largest. A working retriever under the haircut: athletic, highly intelligent, deeply attached to its family, and unhappy alone all day. Best in a house or a large flat with two real walks. This is the dog people mean when they search for a “giant Poodle” — there is no size above it.
Toy Poodle
The same brain in 3 to 4 kg. Suits Indian apartment life, lives commonly to fourteen or fifteen, sheds almost nothing. Not a fragile ornament, and not a “teacup” — that word is marketing for undersized dogs with health problems.
Miniature Poodle
Between the two, around 28–38 cm. We do not currently breed Miniatures, and we would rather say so than sell you an undersized Standard described as one.
Poodle colours in India
Ours are usually red and apricot. The breed also comes in black, white, cream, silver, brown, blue and parti. Two things worth knowing before you pay a premium for a colour: a “blue” Poodle in India is usually a diluted black that greys with age, and “teddy bear Poodle” is a haircut, not a colour or a type. Colour has no effect on temperament or health.
Is a Poodle right for an Indian home?
- Shedding: almost none, which is why Poodles suit Indian households that dislike hair on everything.
- Grooming: the trade for that coat. Brushing several times a week and a professional clip every six to eight weeks, for life.
- Heat: walk early and after sunset from March to October. Ask for a shorter summer clip, never a shave — the coat protects against heat and sunburn.
- Monsoon: dry the ears after every wet walk. Ear infections are the most common Poodle vet visit in humid Indian cities.
- Company: Poodles bond hard and cope badly with empty houses. If nobody is home all day, this is the wrong breed.
Poodle grooming cost in India
Budget for a professional groom every six to eight weeks for the dog’s entire life. Over fifteen years that costs considerably more than the puppy did, and it is the single expense new Poodle owners in India underestimate. Factor it in before you buy, not after.
KCI registration
Our Poodle litters are registered with the Kennel Club of India, and registration is one of the things that moves price within the ranges above. You also get the health record, vaccination and deworming dates, and a chance to meet the mother before you commit.
Buying a Poodle puppy in Delhi NCR
We are in I.P. Extension, Delhi. NCR families usually visit and meet the litter with the mother — always the better option for an eight-week-old puppy. See Poodle puppies in Delhi NCR for how collection works, or read the puppy guide before you decide.
The Poodle’s real temperament, minus the stereotype
The show-ring haircut has done this breed a disservice in India. People assume a Poodle is a delicate, ornamental dog. It is close to the opposite.
Poodles were bred as water retrievers — working gundogs. Even the elaborate clip began as something practical: protecting joints and organs in cold water while letting the dog swim freely. Underneath it is an athletic, powerfully intelligent working animal.
- They learn extremely fast. Consistently ranked among the most trainable breeds. This cuts both ways — they learn your rules quickly, and they learn how to get around them just as quickly.
- They need mental work. A bored Poodle of any size invents its own entertainment. Fifteen minutes of daily training prevents more behaviour problems than an extra hour of walking.
- They attach hard to their people. An affectionate, involved dog rather than an aloof one — which is also why they do badly left alone all day.
- They are sensitive. Harsh handling shuts a Poodle down completely. They respond to reward-based training and very little else.
Poodle coat care through the Indian year
The coat is this breed’s great advantage and its great commitment. It barely sheds, which is why so many Indian families with allergy concerns look at Poodles. But a coat that grows continuously has to be managed, and the management changes with the season.
Summer — April to June. Do not shave to the skin. It is the instinct every Indian owner has, and it is wrong: the coat insulates against heat as well as cold, and exposed skin burns. Ask for a short even clip of roughly half an inch, leaving the back and top of the head covered. Walk early morning and after sunset.
Monsoon — July to September. The hardest season for this breed. Dry the coat completely after every wet walk, especially the ears and between the paw pads. Damp coat held against skin is exactly where fungal infections and ear trouble start. Consider a shorter clip through these months purely so the coat dries faster.
Winter — November to February. In north India, let the coat grow a little longer. Poodles handle cold well but a short-clipped dog will feel a Delhi January.
All year. Comb three times a week with a metal comb — not just a slicker brush, which glides over forming mats without finding them. Behind the ears, under the front legs and around the collar are where problems begin.
Are Poodles hypoallergenic?
No dog truly is, and any seller claiming otherwise is overselling. What is true is that Poodles shed very little hair and release comparatively little loose dander, which is why many allergy sufferers live comfortably with them where other breeds would be impossible.
Reactions vary from person to person, so the sensible step is to spend an hour with an adult Poodle before committing to fourteen years with one. We will arrange that for anyone who can reach us in Delhi NCR, and we would rather you did that than discovered the answer after buying.
Health, by size
Poodles are a long-lived, generally sound breed. The things worth knowing differ with size.
| Size | Watch for | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Toy | Patellar luxation, dental crowding, eye conditions | Keep lean, rugs on tiled floors, discourage jumping off furniture, brush teeth 2–3× weekly |
| Miniature | Patellas, eyes | Keep lean, ask about parents’ eye examinations |
| Standard | Hips, bloat, eyes | Two or three smaller meals daily, no hard exercise around mealtimes, controlled growth as a puppy |
Bloat deserves a specific mention for Standard owners: a hard swollen belly with unproductive retching is a same-hour emergency, not a wait-until-morning problem. Know which vet near you is open at night before you need them.
What a Poodle costs to keep, per month
| Toy | Standard | |
|---|---|---|
| Food | ₹1,200–₹2,500 | ₹4,500–₹8,000 |
| Grooming (averaged) | ₹1,000–₹1,800 | ₹1,500–₹2,500 |
| Tick, flea, deworming | ₹300–₹600 | ₹700–₹1,200 |
| Routine vet | ₹500–₹1,200 | ₹700–₹2,000 |
| Everything else | ₹500–₹1,200 | ₹700–₹2,000 |
| Total | ₹3,500–₹7,300 | ₹8,000–₹15,500 |
Keep an emergency fund alongside this. One serious illness in a large dog can run past ₹50,000, and that is the moment people find out whether they were ready.
Six things to check before buying any Poodle in India
- Meet the mother. In person, or on a live video call. Not a photograph. This single step removes most of the risk in the Indian market.
- Confirm the variety honestly. Ask the parents’ adult weights. Miniatures sold as Toys is the most common misrepresentation here, and the buyer only finds out at eight months.
- Ask about health testing on the parents — eyes for all varieties, hips for Standards, knees for Toys. Vague answers are answers.
- Read the records before paying. Vaccination card with dates, deworming record, vet health-check note.
- Be honest with yourself about grooming. If you cannot fund a groomer every six to eight weeks for the next fourteen years, this is the wrong breed, whatever else appeals about it.
- Never buy a puppy under eight weeks. Anyone offering a six-week-old is telling you something important about how they operate.

Common questions about Poodle puppies
How much is a Poodle puppy in India?
₹45,000 to ₹3,50,000 from us, depending on size and bloodline.
Which Poodle size is best for an apartment?
The Toy Poodle, provided somebody is home for much of the day.
Do Poodles shed?
Very little. The coat grows continuously instead of falling out, which is why it needs regular clipping.
Are teacup Poodles real?
No. There are three sizes only: Standard, Miniature and Toy.
Are Poodles hypoallergenic?
No dog is truly hypoallergenic, but Poodles shed very little and release comparatively little loose dander, which many allergy sufferers tolerate well. Spend time with an adult before committing.
Should I shave my Poodle in Indian summer?
No. Ask for a short even clip of about half an inch. The coat protects against heat as well as cold and shaved skin can burn.
How do I care for a Poodle coat during monsoon?
Dry the coat completely after every wet walk, especially ears and paws. Damp coat against skin causes fungal infections and ear problems. A shorter clip through these months helps it dry faster.
Are Poodles intelligent and easy to train?
Yes, consistently among the most trainable breeds. They were bred as working water retrievers and need daily mental work, not just walks.
What is the difference between a Toy and a Miniature Poodle?
A Toy is up to 10 inches and 3 to 5 kg. A Miniature is 10 to 15 inches and 6 to 9 kg. Miniatures sold as Toys is the most common misrepresentation in the Indian market, so ask the parents’ adult weights.
What does a Poodle cost to keep each month in India?
Roughly ₹3,500 to ₹7,300 a month for a Toy and ₹8,000 to ₹15,500 for a Standard, covering food, grooming, preventatives and routine vet care.
What health problems do Poodles have?
Toys are prone to patellar luxation and dental crowding; Standards to hip issues and bloat; eye conditions occur across all sizes. Keeping the dog lean and asking about the parents’ health testing matters most.
