Buying a puppy from another city is a reasonable thing to be nervous about. This page covers what the dog is actually like in Mumbai conditions, how transport works, and what you should demand from us before any money moves.

Why the Toy Poodle is the poodle that suits Mumbai

Mumbai housing is the smallest of any Indian metro by floor area, and that is the deciding factor.

• Size. 3–5 kg fully grown. A Toy Poodle is comfortable in a 1BHK in Andheri in a way that a 30 kg dog is not, however much you love the look of one.
• Exercise. 30–40 minutes a day, which is achievable before work even in a building with one lift.
• Noise. Poodles are alert and will announce a doorbell, but a well-exercised Toy is not a barker. In a building with shared walls, that matters.
• Lifespan. 14–17 years, among the longest of any breed.

What we would not recommend for a Mumbai flat

We turn down more Mumbai enquiries than we accept, and it is nearly always the same request: a Standard Poodle or a Goldendoodle for a two-bedroom flat with both adults working.

Those are 20–35 kg dogs needing 60–90 minutes of real daily exercise. In a Mumbai flat, with Mumbai commutes, that usually does not happen. What follows is an anxious, under-exercised dog and an owner who feels guilty, and the dog is the one who suffers. If that is your situation, the honest answer is a Toy Poodle — or no dog yet.

Mumbai humidity and a curly coat

Delhi’s problem is dry heat. Mumbai’s is moisture, and it does different things to a Poodle coat.

• The coat holds water. Dry it completely after every wet walk, right down to the skin. Damp coat against skin is where fungal infections start, and they are common in Mumbai dogs.
• Ears are the weak point. Poodles have drop ears and hair inside the canal. In Mumbai’s humidity that is an ear infection waiting to happen. Check weekly, keep them dry, and see a vet at the first head-shaking.
• Paws. Between the pads stays damp in monsoon. Dry them every time.
• A shorter clip from June to September simply so the coat dries faster. This is the one time of year we would recommend going shorter than usual.

Monsoon with a puppy in Mumbai

If your puppy arrives between June and September, plan for it:

• House-training is harder when outside is flooded. Set up an indoor toilet area with pads from day one rather than fighting it.
• Keep vaccinations current before monsoon. Standing water and higher disease risk make this the wrong season to be casual about the schedule.
• Leptospirosis is a genuine monsoon concern in Mumbai. Ask your vet about it specifically.
• Balcony safety. Grills before the puppy arrives, not after.

What it costs to keep a Toy Poodle in Mumbai

Mumbai grooming rates run slightly above Delhi’s. Budget a salon visit every six to eight weeks for the life of the dog — this is not optional with a Poodle coat.

How your puppy gets from our home to yours

This is the part Mumbai buyers ask about most, and rightly.

1. Talk to us first. Tell us your flat, your hours and who is home. If a Toy Poodle is wrong for you, we will say so.
2. Live video call. The actual puppies and the mother, live, on your screen. Not recorded clips, not photographs. Ask us to move the camera wherever you want.
3. Reserve. Once you have seen the litter and read the records.
4. Eight weeks minimum. Nothing travels earlier, whatever the request. A puppy moved too young is a puppy that gets sick.
5. Accompanied transport. We arrange for the puppy to travel with a handler rather than as unaccompanied cargo, and you are told the schedule in advance.
6. Handover in person in Mumbai, with the vaccination card, deworming record, vet health-check note, diet sheet and KCI paperwork.

Buying from another city: what to demand

From us or anyone else selling into Mumbai from outside:

• A live video call with the mother. If a seller will not do this, stop there. It is the single clearest test.
• The records before payment, not on arrival.
• A named person and a real address you can verify.
• Clarity on what happens if a Mumbai vet finds a problem in week one. Agree it in writing before money moves.
• Refusal to ship under eight weeks. A seller who agrees to send a six-week-old puppy is telling you exactly how they operate.

Our KCI-registered Toy Poodles are 45,000 to 70,000 rupees depending on lineage and papers. Pricing is the same nationwide — Mumbai buyers pay what Delhi buyers pay.

Is a Toy Poodle practical in a Mumbai flat?

Yes. At 3 to 5 kg an adult Toy Poodle fits a 1BHK comfortably and needs 30 to 40 minutes of exercise a day. It is the most practical of our breeds for Mumbai housing.

How does a Toy Poodle cope with Mumbai humidity?

The coat holds moisture, so the risk is fungal skin trouble and ear infections rather than heat. Dry the coat completely after every wet walk, keep a shorter clip through the monsoon, and check ears weekly.
