The honest question: is your Mumbai home big enough?
Mumbai has the smallest average home size of any Indian metro, and this is the largest dog we breed. That combination is the single thing worth settling before anything else.

Floor area matters less than daily exercise and company. A Standard Poodle that gets a proper hour outside is calm indoors; one that does not becomes anxious and destructive, and no amount of training fixes the underlying cause.
Mumbai humidity and a big coat
Delhi’s problem is dry heat. Mumbai’s is moisture, and it does different things to a dense Poodle coat.
- The coat holds water. Dry it completely after every wet walk, right down to the skin. Damp coat against skin is where fungal infections start, and they are common in Mumbai dogs.
- Ears are the weak point. Poodles have drop ears with hair inside the canal. In Mumbai humidity that is an ear infection waiting to happen — check weekly and see a vet at the first head-shaking.
- A shorter clip from June to September purely so the coat dries faster. This is the one time of year we would recommend going shorter than usual.
- Paws. Between the pads stays damp through monsoon. Dry them every time.
Walking a large dog in Mumbai
Practical realities Mumbai owners raise with us:
- Monsoon months make outdoor exercise unreliable. Plan indoor mental work — fifteen minutes of training does more for a Poodle’s behaviour than an extra half hour of walking.
- Lift dependency. In a tower, every toilet break is a lift trip. For a puppy needing out every two hours, that is a real commitment.
- Promenades and parks fill up early. A large dog is easier to walk before 7am, which also avoids the heat.
- Society rules. Check them before you buy. The Animal Welfare Board of India’s position is that societies cannot ban pets outright, but a 30 kg dog attracts more attention than a small one.

Mumbai grooming runs slightly above Delhi rates. Budget a salon visit every six to eight weeks for the life of the dog — not optional with this coat.
Bloat: know this before you need it
Gastric dilatation-volvulus kills deep-chested dogs and the Standard Poodle is deep-chested. It goes from healthy to fatal in a couple of hours.
Signs: swollen hard belly, repeated retching with nothing coming up, restlessness, drooling, distress. What you do: a vet immediately, not in the morning. Reducing the risk: two or three smaller meals, no hard exercise for an hour either side of eating, a slow-feeder bowl.
