Why Mumbai buyers choose this breed — and when they shouldn’t
The Goldendoodle is the friendliest dog we breed and the most tolerant of family chaos, which is why Mumbai families ask about it. The honest caveats:
- It is not a small dog. Adults run 20 to 30 kg. In a compact flat that is a lot of dog in a small space, and the exercise requirement does not shrink to fit.
- It cannot be left alone all day. This breed was made to be with people. Nine hours alone daily produces an anxious, vocal dog — and in a Mumbai building with shared walls, that becomes a neighbour problem within a week.
- The coat is a lifelong commitment. Every six to eight weeks at the salon, forever.

Monsoon: the season that decides how this goes
June to September is the hard part of owning a coated dog in Mumbai, and almost nobody selling puppies mentions it.

Do Goldendoodles shed?
Far less than a Golden Retriever, which is why allergy sufferers often manage well with them. But no dog is truly hypoallergenic, and coat type varies within a litter. Spend time with an adult before committing.
